William Shatner wished his Star Trek costumes were looser

On Star Trek, the Red Shirts constantly got a raw deal, but it turns out their captain was not always so happy with his green uniform.

Speaking on Thursday at Comic Con, William Shatner confessed that his tight lime tunic made him a touch body conscious. He was in San Diego to promote the upcoming Autobiography of James T. Kirk.

"It was a little embarrassing after lunch to have that tight green thing on you," the 84-year-old actor said. "The more drape, the better."

The embarrassment came at having to walk around the studio lot in body-hugging space clothes amidst all the cool cowboys and spies filming other shows.

The green tunic was not as common as the captain's typical yellow top, but it did make appearances in some classic episodes. Kirk sports the green tunic in "The Trouble with Tribbles" and "The Enemy Within." Interesting to note how the gold rank insignia moved from the sleeves to the shoulders.

Hey, it was the 1960s. Er, 2260s. Tight clothes were the style. Still, it could have been worse (or better?) — the writers could have made Kirk go topless. What do you think? Was Kirk more stylish in his green or yellow togs?
